British Sausage Week returns for 19th year

Entrants for the British Sausage Week competition are now open, as the event returns for its 19th year.

Over 750 different varieties of sausage from independent butchers, farm shops, retailers and suppliers to the foodservice sector were entered into the competition last year, with Devon butchers Complete Meats coming out on top.

Pork sausages have faced some tough challenges over the past 12 months, and British Sausage Week is the perfect opportunity for the industry to celebrate sausages with consumers and showcase just how tasty and easy to cook sausages are, deserving their place in a modern family meal, said Kirsty Walker, head of marketing for AHDB Pork.

Although Keith Fisher retired from his role as butchery development manager for AHDB Pork earlier this year, he will be returning to act as head judge for the competition.

Shaun Vining of Complete Meats said: It really is quite unbelievable how a certificate stating a sausage is award-winning can have such an impact on customers. We quadrupled sales of our Pork and Otter Ale sausage after winning the competition. We will definitely be entering again this year.
