Calling all butchers, Champion of Champions deadline approaches

With the 25 September deadline approaching, you now only have two weeks to enter Meat Trades Journal’s Champion of Champions competition.

This is the UK’s premier sausage competition and is a must for any butcher from the UK or Republic of Ireland that has won a recognised sausage competition between 1 July 2016 and 1 September 2017.

The best sausages in the nation will be tested by a panel of expert judges, where an ultimate Champion of Champions will be named.

Last year’s winner was Andrew Rook of JC Rook and Sons in Kent, who took home the trophy with his Grandad’s Recipe Pork & Sage. He explained that the award helped boost business. “Whenever you win anything, you get it out there under the customers’ noses. Get everybody in the shop buzzing about it. It’s great for staff morale.”

Champion of Champions is taking place on Monday 6 November at County Hall in London. To download an entry form, click here or for more information, contact Lara Bacinello at lara.bacinello@wrbm or 01293 610475. The awards are sponsored by AHDB Pork, Viscofan, and Lucas Ingredients.

This year’s Champion of Champions will coincide with Meat Trades Journal’s inaugural Big Sausage Week, running from 31 October until 6 November 2017. The event has been designed to celebrate the Great British sausage. We’re calling on retailers to submit recipes, flavour ideas and marketing tips to get the public excited about sausages. Over the course of the week, we will be promoting all forms of sausage from around the UK and Ireland. To submit an image, recipe or idea, email aidan.fortune@wrbm.com or aaron.mcdonald@wrbm.com
